About Us
Seven Springs Presbyterian Church began in the early 1870s with one faithful woman, Mrs. Nancy McGlocklin, who gathered her children and her neighbors’ children under a spreading oak tree on the mountain to teach them the gospel. That small Sunday School became a chapel of the Glade Spring Presbyterian Church. The congregation met under the oak in summer and in a nearby house in winter, until the present chapel was built between 1899 and 1901.
Seven Springs was organized as a particular church in 1967. In 1978, convinced that the Southern Presbyterian Church (PCUS) had departed from the authority of Scripture, the congregation voted unanimously to withdraw and join the newly formed Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Today we are a congregation of the PCA in Westminster Presbytery.
Generations have come and gone, but one thing has remained constant: a heartbeat for God’s glory and His gospel.
For His Glory
Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
Westminster Shorter Catechism, Q. 1
What is the chief purpose for which man is made? Why are you here? The answer to this question affects your character, relationships, decisions, family, and everything. Do you live for the happiness of you or others? Maybe you are here for the greater good of civilization? At Seven Springs Presbyterian Church we believe the simple question has a simple answer. The chief purpose for which man is made is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever. SSPC seeks to have this as our foundation to all that we do. We exist to glorify God. We glorify God by the faithful preaching of his word, Biblical worship and diligent prayer.
Word
Trusting the Holy Bible, both the Old and New Testament, is the living and active Word of God by which man’s lives should be lived and measured (2 Tim 3:16-17).
Worship
Giving glory, honor and praise to God which is due to him. We worship the Triune God according to the commands of Scripture (Rom 15:6).
Prayer
Growing in dependence upon Christ by giving glory, adoration and requests to God both corporately and individually (Col 4:2).
For His Gospel
We believe the church is a light set on a stand or a city on a hill. The church is not a country club for members, nor a secret society. The church exists to make disciples, followers of Jesus. The gospel is a simple message that shares hope for those who trust in Jesus, through faith. Sin has separated us from our creator. We are unable to save ourselves. Christ came into the world as a man to pay for our sins and give us His righteousness. Christ rules and reigns from the right hand of the Father in heaven. Christ has sent his Spirit to comfort and convicts his people. This simple message is powerful and effective to bring the lost to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to make disciples. We share His Gospel through the proclamation of the good news of the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We show His Gospel through being hospitable and generous, as Christ was to us.
Proclaiming
Communicating the Gospel for the purpose of bringing people to maturity in Christ Jesus (Col 1:28).
Hospitality
Connecting to one another by expressing grace and truth in Christ, through authentic relationships, as each is built up according to their needs (Rom 12:5).
Generosity
Offering and sacrificing our whole lives to build God’s kingdom through using our financial resources, our natural talents and our spiritual gifts (1 Tim 6:18).
Small Church. Whole Heart.
We are a small congregation in a rural community, and we are not trying to be anything else. What we offer is not a large program but a faithful church: the Bible opened and preached, God worshipped with reverence, the sacraments rightly administered, elders who know and shepherd the flock, and a church family that will know your name.
